WILKO HELPS HOSPITAL STAFF AND PATIENTS ACCESS ESSENTIALS WITH DRAGONS DELIVERY SERVICE

Wilko team members at the retailer’s Magor distribution centre have joined forces with Newport’s Dragons Rugby Team to launch ‘Dragon Deliveries’, a new service to bring free of charge essential items to hospital staff and patients at The Royal Gwent NHS Trust.

Amongst the items that have been donated via the regular deliveries include toiletries, sanitary products, dental items and tights.

The Dragons Rugby Team, which is sponsored by wilko, has supported the distribution centre’s work by providing its van for the deliveries, and the spare time of players including the Welsh national team’s Elliot Dee to help to distribute the products.

This partnership has also distributed items to other individuals, including those staying at Newport’s St. David’s Hospice and the children of frontline key workers who have still been in school during the lockdown. Amongst the items delivered were a bumper supply of Easter eggs in time for the long Bank Holiday weekend.

Mike Brennan, an operations manager at wilko, said: “We’re delighted to bring both essentials and seasonal treats to the vulnerable and to key workers and their families during this trying time.

“We’re so proud of our team members for pulling together with the Dragons to make these donations possible and hope they provide a little help or the odd treat for incredibly busy NHS teams, who are often short of time to freshen up or take some ‘me time’, and for those who sadly aren’t feeling too well at present.”
