NURSES and health workers whose skin has suffered due to wearing safety masks and visors during the Coronavirus pandemic received care packages from a kindly college worker.

Philippa Lea-Bush, an international administrator at Coleg Cambria, delivered hand and face creams to Wrexham Maelor Hospital after receiving a phenomenal response from members of a Body Shop Facebook page she coordinates.

The mum-of-two is now appealing for support to help staff at Nightingale House Hospice in Wrexham with items and protective creams that will improve their physical wellbeing during the ongoing fight against Covid-19.

“The Body Shop page is a hobby and good fun, but when I saw other groups donating creams and health products to the NHS and frontline workers I thought it would be a good opportunity to get involved,” said Philippa.

“The group has more than 360 members who are all very supportive, and many others have donated to the cause.

“As a result, I am able to send items to the intensive care unit and medical staff at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, with the support of the community council.

“The council also bought products, and I put any commission I would normally receive into buying more.”

She added: “Wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety masks for many hours on end has left a lot of these doctors, nurses and carers with sores and bruises all over their skin, so they were very grateful for the contribution.

“Their hands are also damaged from endless washing, so it was good to be able to help in some small way.”

Philippa is now trying to put together more packages, this time for staff at Nightingale House.

“People have been so generous, I am really thankful and hope they will continue to support me as I collect donations for the hospice,” added Philippa.

“Considering a lot of people are struggling at the present time the response has been just incredible – I really appreciate it.
