COLEG CAMBRIA and Wrexham Glyndwr University have united to further strengthen opportunities for young people in north east Wales.

Cambria’s Chief Executive Yana Williams and Professor Maria Hinfelaar, Vice-Chancellor of Wrexham Glyndwr University, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) focused on collaboration and community.

They plan to create an “effective and active” educational partnership in areas including health and social care and engineering.

A focus on maximising the shared potential of Northop – the site jointly owned and operated by the institutions – is also a key priority.

Ms Williams said: “We already work closely with our colleagues at Wrexham Glyndwr University and want to build on those foundations in the years ahead.

“The way we have met the challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic demonstrates how coming together can only improve and positively impact outcomes, particularly from an educational and economic perspective. Capitalising on the potential of both institutions is a natural next step.”

Wrexham Glyndwr Vice-Chancellor Maria Hinfelaar added: “We have fantastic opportunities for students across north east Wales, so it makes perfect sense for Wrexham Glyndwr and Coleg Cambria to work together and maximise these prospects.

“Sharing our existing and future facilities as well as best practice will mean students can benefit from a joined-up approach to their education, ensuring a broad and balanced curriculum.

“I look forward to our future collaborations with Coleg Cambria.”

Work will also go into developing post-16 progression pathways, Welsh medium learning, delivering against the Children’s University – a charity that works in partnership with schools to develop a love of learning in children – and laying out long term proposals for sustained academic excellence.
