A LEADING Welsh jewellery brand is opening a new store in Carmarthen.

Clogau will unveil its latest boutique this Saturday (Nov 26) after an unprecedented period of retail expansion, bucking the trend on UK high streets.

The Denbighshire company has taken over a 60 square-metre premises at St Catherine’s Walk Shopping Centre, having opened units in Swansea, Bangor and Llandudno in the last 12 months.

Managing director Ben Roberts said there are plans for further shops in the near future, as well as continued online growth.

“The new store is in a prime location and fits perfectly with our plans,” he said.

“Carmarthen is a vibrant town with a strong retail presence so for us it’s a pleasure to be here and to be employing six permanent staff.

“As a Welsh business and brand our heritage and identity are at the heart of everything we do, so expansion in Wales, supporting local economies and helping bring jobs back to the high street is pivotal as we move forward.”

Founded by Ben’s father William in 1989, Clogau is one of the world’s most beloved independent brands.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, the multi award-winning business has enjoyed a successful 2019.

Now employing up to 180 staff across the country, Clogau has increased its commercial footprint while other firms do the opposite.

Ben says their vision is clear; to embrace the history of Welsh gold and royal connection – it was used in the wedding rings of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, Catherine Middleton, Meghan Markle and, most recently, Princess Eugenie – while bringing their popular jewellery to a wider audience, including international airlines and cruise ships.

“Carmarthen is the latest chapter in our story, and we look forward to being part of the community here and welcoming new customers,” he said.

“We reflect on the last 30 years while looking ahead, and what lies ahead is very exciting for all of us.

“I would ask people to watch this space and thank them for their continued support – we will never take it for granted and promise you there is even more to come in the next 30 years.”
